Emmanuel Bida Thomas is a recovering fact-checker with over five years of experience researching and debunking false claims in the South Sudanese media landscape. He trains on fact-checking, hate speech mitigation, basic investigative journalism, and digital media content creation.
He served as the 211 Check editor and project coordinator between April 2021 and March 2024, during which he developed the project’s fact-checking capabilities, leading to an increased team size, partnerships, revenue, and admission to the Africa Fact-Checking Alliance, the International Fact-Checking Network, and the Global Forum for Media Development. He has also worked as an editor at Talk of Juba and the Equator Broadcasting Corporation and was a contributor at Juba Echo.
Bida is a 2022 Africa Check Fellow, and he was also awarded the Nuffic OKP scholarship to undertake a course on digital media to counter hate speech and disinformation at the Radio Netherlands Training Centre in 2023.
